On September 7th we will be walking from Xscape in Milton Keynes all the way back to Emily’s grave in Buckingham. This 14-mile journey is a chance for us to raise money in her memory, for a charity that does extraordinary work in the fight against meningitis. Meningitis Now not only funds research into the disease but also helps families recover from the destruction it can cause.

On December 30th 2013, Emily started to feel unwell and like the rest of us, she took some paracetamol and went to bed. The following morning, she collapsed and never regained consciousness. Emily was quickly airlifted to the John Radcliffe hospital, where her family was given the devastating news that she had meningitis. On new year’s day 2014, Emily’s parents Julia and Peter had to make the heart-breaking decision to turn off her life support machines and say goodbye to their precious daughter - our best friend.

Emily was just 19 when she died. She had her whole life ahead of her, one that myself and her other friends and family hoped to share with her.
